Its Happening
Its a big day today.
The release of The Happening. I am very excited. I love M Night and what he does.
He has caught a bad rap from shtupid critics because he isnt conventional and he does what he wants. His last film Lady In The Water got terrible reviews and people either hated it - or - loved it. I quite enjoyed it, you just have to take it for what it is and not try to make it something it is not.
So. im going to see the happening.
go see it and comment. this will definetly be a conversation piece.

no country for old men.

i must admit that i consider this one of the best movies that i have seen in the last couple of weeks. It is a different story surrounded by a lot of violence. it shows many different themes and different attitudes from different people. i really liked the role of the bad guy. he did such an amazing job fitting into his role and making his character a believable one. i must admit that i was truly intimidated by him.
i do not want to spoil the movie for those of you who haven't seen it... (lance)
i will wait to dig into the story a little deeper once i get some people to help out (lance)

Knocked Up

This is one funny movie, from the title i was a little skeptical because i thought it was going to be another perverted movie where you see a bunch for skanky hoes naked. I mean is was perverted at times but in a very humors way. The overall plot was pretty good, having a life plan then having your plans change unexpectedly and making the most of what you have. As a Christian i don't know how many times this has happened to me. God plan for us is never what we envision for ourselves.
This movie reminded me a lot of my friends and I, I saw many of my friends being some of the characters.
The best thing about this movie was the one liners there were so funny i don't laugh to myself very much but there were parts when i was cracking up to myself. Here are some of my favorites:
-Jonah: I won't say it but it rhymes with shmashmortion.
-Alison Scott: I was drunk!
Ben Stone: Was your vagina drunk?
-Pete: Marriage is like a tense, unfunny version of Everybody Loves Raymond, only it doesn't last 22 minutes. It lasts forever.
-Dr. Pellagrino: [after staring at Allison's vagina for the gynecology appointment] Wow, you do look like your sister!
-Female Doctor: Oops. That's not your vagina. That's your asshole.
I could go on and on, if those quotes don't make you want to see it then maybe this movie isn't for you.

"There will be Blood"

Won 2 Oscars:
-Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
Daniel Day-Lewis
-Best Achievement in Cinematography
Robert Elswit
-Nominated for 6 other awards at the Oscars.
The movie starts off slow with no dialogue for the first 15 minutes, it was an interesting approach, it wasn't that there was no sound it was that there was a man alone mining for silver and he didn't talk to himself.
The plot was about a man who was in the Oil drilling business always trying to make a buck here and there and he is willing to do anything to get what he want. Throughout the movie there are themes of Family, Greed and Religion. I was impressed with the acting, again i like when i see new actors, or at least actors that you don't see much of in movies. I think the movie had some undertones i missed, but it doesn't hurt the movie by not understanding all of them. The ending is abrupt and you are kind of left feeling like you want the rest of the story. Check it out and let's discuss.
"I'm Finished"
Jumper

So i had no idea what this movie was about therefore i guess you could say i had low expectations.
I honestly don't know where to begin talking about this movie. so i will let IMDB do a little talking for me.
Plotline: A genetic anomaly allows a young man to teleport himself anywhere. He discovers this gift has existed for centuries and finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between "Jumpers" and those who have sworn to kill them.
So thats the plot and of course intertwined in the plot is another story about love. This movie has a lot of action drama and suspense i left the theatre wanting to be a Jumper, if you saw the movie you would know why. But i think i would be a Jumper that helps people around the world in life treating situations, flood, fire and any other kind of disaster. If you are totally confused watch the movie and it might make more sense.

the bucket list.

a sad but inspiring movie. it shows the hope after all the positive is taken out of life. two ill people prevent their terminal illness from ruining their life. the experiences we see throughout the movie are told from the point of view of morgan freeman, one of the two ill characters. morgan's soft voice is always a good thing to hear as it easily brings the audience along in the story (think of the shawshank redemption) in my own personal opinion, many of the things they experienced caused me to say under different health conditions "i wish that was me" traveling on a private jet from a safari in africa to the sky for a little skydiving sessions. many of the different things seen in the movie cause plenty of mixed reaction when we see the sad reality block the hopes for life. overall a cute movie.
i have a simple question derived from a part of the movie.
1. if you were given the opportunity to know the exact day of your death, would you like to know?

"once"
Once is an Academy Award winning 2007 Irish musical film written and directed by John Carney. Set in Dublin, this naturalistic drama stars musicians Glen Hansard (of popular Irish rock band The Frames) and Markéta Irglová as struggling musicians. Collaborators prior to making the film, Hansard and/or Irglová composed and performed all but one of the original songs in the movie.
I watched this movie several days ago then again last night.
it was nominated and won (surprisingly but ever so greatly) for best original song at the academy awards. I recommend watching it.
It was shot for $100,000 which i really like. (for any of you who know anything about film making $100,000 is NOTHING)
i like how it was way "un hollywood"
they stars actually arent even actors, they are musicians but its great. they makers wanted it to feel very natural and they chose it to have great musicians and half ass actors rather than great actors and half ass musicians. which i think they did a great job.
the music is great.
i guess just watch it.
i would like to discuss further in comments later so watch it and respond.
this is supposed to be a communication... a discussiong. i dont want to be the only one unloading these movies.

The Orphanage (El Orfanato)

The Orphanage.
what to say. i walked into the theatre and, to my surprise, found that my group was the only other group in the theatre which made for a total of 7 people in the theatre. (maybe the fact that it was the 10:40 showing on a wednesday night) This made me question the quality of the movie, then again most of us are lazy americans and dont like the fact that they have to go to a movie in another language and READ SUBTITLES!!
The movie is a spanish movie "Presented" by Guillermo Del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth). This is a horror movie by reputation and is what takes a big part in my overall analysis.
walking into this movie i had heard from fellow full sailors that this movie is "so scary" and "Its the only movie that actually had me curled up in a ball in my seat". now hearing this i am expecting a really FREAKING scary movie. ( which i wasnt a huge fan of because i dont particularly like horror movies)
so. when coming to the end and i still hadnt pissed my pants i was somewhat disappointed (and majorly relieved) because it was contrary to all the hype i had heard.
The movie for what it is, is a great movie. I would def. recommend it and would like to see it again to pick up everything but all in all i would say YES to this movie..
(if you see this film feel free to talk about it more in depth inside, i would like to comment back and forth about it but i dont want to ruin anything for anyone who is planning on seeing it but hasnt yet)

CLoverfield
in all honesty i went into the movie with low expectations.
and i feel that to merely say that the movie was better than i expected doesnt say much.
I would say my overall vibe of the movie was... i liked it!!
lets break it down.

So. we went out on thursday night and caught the midnight showing of cloverfield.
the story surface level.. it was a "slice of life" story (like my previous creative writing instructors would say)
It was a slice of life in the sense that we started at a party- got minor background info (sufficient amount to work for the movie) then a disaster struck. then we follow them on their journey.
so all in all the story line was mediocre but worked in this specific situation so i cant complain..
Cinematography-
an interesting approach on movie making to say the least.
it was done completely hand held "home video" style.
This gave an interesting aspect adding to the slice of life factor.
concerns with this style.
it was hard to follow at times. i found myself needing reference points to keep from puking my lungs out. (note the brooklyn bridge scene)
*not recommended for those with weak stomachs and easy motion sickness
Special FX
i must give the special FX team mad props. Not only were the special FX good, but the fact that they had to sit there and key frame out every single frame of the entire movie since its shot hand held: there are no reference points to go with, rendering this project a beast.. for any of you who know about keyframing or keystoning or rendering any kind of 2d, oe 3d object..
Acting. mediocre.
sometime i felt the acting lagged a little. phrases like "what is that?" "whats going on?" "what should we do" came up a lot and i found it repetitive and unprofessional. (not that "real people" would be "professional" but it reminded me of a bad improve job.
but in all the did good, working with CG crap and everything.
so. thats cloverfield.
i realize i was quite harsh but all in all i would see it again.. i might pop a few dremamine before returning though.
tell me what you thought!!!
